Free Online Excel Training

..

I have just been pointed to an excellent free  resource for those of you who use spreadsheets or even those who don’t yet but would like to learn how to use them – a brand new website about Microsoft Excel!..

SpreadsheetO Video

Now I’ve been using spreadsheets for many years, I love them, I even use excel as my calculator because my arthritic fingers often hit the wrong button on a calculator but I don’t realize so get an incorrect total, but with a spreadsheet, I can see the figures I enter and I just have a formula at the bottom that works out the total for me..

.

In my work with bookkeeping clients, I’ve created a spreadsheet to work out the split for  invoices with a mixture of tax and no tax items that have to be split into several cost centers – this was a real pain to do each time, but now it’s a breeze, all I need to do is enter invoice total, tax amount and % breakups and presto, the figures to enter are sitting there for me!

.

spreadsheetOSpreadsheeto is all about depth. That means each topic get thoroughly explained, in an easy-to-understand manner. All of their content is free and up to date. So even though you’re not an “Excel-nerd” (like they are), you can learn to do some pretty amazing things.

.

Even if this is not for you, if you know someone who has to use a spreadsheet, maybe for a club or organisation they belong to, pass on this link to this excellent  Excel training resource..

Testing CanvaKala Plugin

Canvakala is a new plugin that is getting rave reviews

The recently released plugin (special launch price $17) aims to give word-press users a replacement for the inadequate image handling that is built-in. Some people claimed it had the power of photoshop while being a lot easier to use, so I thought that I would try out.

..

Here’s the link if you want to check it out (this is a direct link not one that would earn me a commission)

Claims:

..

Find Royalty-free Images

Easily Find images from sites like pixabay, flickr, openclipart & instagram, ALL from your WP dashboard!
YES, it did that but you have to have active accounts at Flickr & Pixabay first, so be prepared to upload some photos there first if you don’t have active accounts there already (at Pixabay at least)

..

Manage & Edit Images EASILY

Once you’ve picked an image you can resize/crop to any size you want or to built-in size suggestion like for FB ads, cover etc.

Yes, this feature is excellent

Choose from 20 Automatic Special Effects also apply Instagram like filters to your image

Make your image UNIQUES and STANDOUT with some WOW effects!  –

Lots of effects but of limited use in my opinion

..

Insert Your Image Easily To Your Blog Post or Download it for other purposes!

After you finish designing or editing your image you can easily use it for whatever you want!

Yes, that can be done easily too.

..

Adds a Full Photoshop like Editor to your site –

Well, it does add some features found in photoshop but the plugin is not designed to replace photoshop any more that a Mini would replace a Rolls, but they both will get you from one place to another in their own way.
..

Some of the features advertised are only available in the Pro version (OTO1 – $27 at time of launch)> If you have a lot of WordPress sites, want to have more choice that people who only bought the regular edition or if price is not an issue for you, then the pro edition gives you a heap more choices.

..

I’ve only tried it on two sites so far – but does the editor does not open to search for images on the other site. I’ll be sending a support ticket to see if there are any known incompatibilities with other plugins or themes.

Would I recommend it? Yes if your time is more valuable than the cost. It certainly made the finding & posting of the image above very easy, but I have many sources for graphics asn other good programs to edit them, so did not buy the upgrade (was very tempted though – I am one of those impulse buyers sellers love!)

Best wishes
Trish

Short Review of Zapable App Builder

Zapable claims their system will build a mobile app in less than 60 seconds!

Even if you haven’t any coding knowledge and no prior experience with building applications, you’ll be able to use this program.

It’s “Drag n Drop” simple but will have you producing incredible apps within minutes.

You can completely customize & change the way your app looks, changing icons, color schemes & designs. If you do not like any of the ready-made color schemes available, you can put together your own. As you make the changes on the drag & drop application editing interface, you’ll see a preview of the application updated in real-time.

Once you have the app the way you want it, you can immediately submit it to Google Play, Amazon and iTunes stores for approval. These costs vary from $25 per app on Google to $99 for iTunes, so that cost needs to be factored into your calculations when budgeting.

Keeping in Touch at Xmas

Nearly Christmas time again and the end of another year – it's amazing how fast the time goes by.

Christmas is a time for family and friends, for catching up with those you haven't seen for a while and for telling others you appreciate them and how much they mean to you. What better way than to send them a greeting whether as a phone call, a letter, a card in the post or an e-card or perhaps a personal video greeting.

Do not be daunted by some of these ideas as they can be fun to make and your sentiments are appreciated by the receiver. Let's start by examining the options:

If you want to make your own greeting cards, or just want some festive icons to add to emails or web pages, you can get these great Xmas icons free from Mighty Deals – just click on their "Free Stuff" tab. They come in 3 sizes, 64 x 64, 128 x 128 &  256 x 256 so come in very handy for a variety of projects. Mighty Deals also have Xmas stickers free just now – they are on currently on page 2 of the Free Stuff. There's heaps of other graphics in the free stuff as well, so check them out.

Xmas Icons For e-cards with a unique touch, you can't go past Ojolie.com  –  I first heard about Frederikke's cards way back in 2008 (see my earlier blog post for more information) and have renewed my very low priced membership ever since ($12 for one year and $18 for 2 years). I've lost count of how many cards there are available, but there's a wide selection for all sorts of occasions and the great thing is that the membership area keeps track of that cards you have previously sent to the people on your email list there. They have a nice selection of free cards as well for you to try for yourself. Many of my friends have commented on the delightful cards I've sent them, so check them out at Ojolie.com or on facebook.

If you'd like a video to share this Christmas, try Animoto – they make it easy to use your own photos, text & even videos to produce a professional looking video message.  You can make a free one of 30 seconds or less with some limitations on the number of your own photos you upload but the cost is reasonable if you want to a bigger project. The free one below was made in about 4 minutes just as a demo.

The compliments of the season to you all. Trish

IMA – A Review of Internet Marketing Apprentice

Is this the site that has all you need?

Membership sites are still going strong this year and for good reason – a good membership site can have all the tools and resources you need to get your internet business up and running and making money. The only reason that often they don’t is that you go flitting from one site or ptoject to another (like I used to) and don’t get on and follow the suggestions, plans or programs that these excellent sites offer.

Mind you, they are not all excellent sites, but most are run by people who with integrity and who want to do all they can to get you making money and living the same lifestyle of freedom that they themselves have. SO how do you know if a particular membership site will be one of the good ones?

Here are a few pointers to help you decide:

  • Does the site just seem to be a product with a download area and an optin box for your email?
  • Is there a whole lot of hype and trumpet blowing and very little factual information about what is included?
  • Does the advertising tell you up front that the “free” offering is just a lead in and once you sign up, you’ll have to pay a fee, perhaps a monthly fee, to have any real benefit?

Now, don’t get me wrong  – there is nothing wrong with a membership site that has a monthly fee and offers great value for that fee – I belong to a few of them myself – but they have always been open and honest up front about the pricing structure, letting you decide beforehand whether this is for you.

So, here are some clues that a membership site you are considering is good value:

  • Are you offered something that you deem to be good value before you are even asked for any cash? Especially important for those who are in their early stages and don’t have much to spare yet.
  • What sort of training is on offer?
  • Is it at a level appropriate for your stage of learning? Some sites will only offer basic stuff, while others will bamboozle a beginner, maybe putting them off forever.
  • What other resources are provided? Can you get products to sell, resell, brand or rewrite & make your own?
  • Do they help you get traffic to your sites? After all, the best website ever won’t make any money if nobody sees it!

OK, enough of my views – I want to tell you about a new membership site started by a guy I’ve learned to trust, Randy Smith and his partner Craig Dawber. It’s called Internet Marketing Apprentice (or IMA for short) and it incorporates all the elements I’ve told you to look out for in a good membership site. You can get free coaching newsletters sent every 7 days and you don’t need to pay anything for that.

However, for those who are ready for more, there many aspects to the membership.

Website Flipping

Not everyone one wants to build their own website and to save the time and effort, are willing to buy one already made.

Selling already made websites is called website flipping and can be a win-win situation from both the buyers and sellers point of view. The buyer is happy to have a ready made site, to get started promoting his or her business straight away, and the seller is happy to have money to bank.

If you have the time and the expertise (although even that can be pretty easy if you use the free and fairly easy to use WordPress platform), you can get a web flipping business going without much startup cost, so this is a good business model for those who want to get started making money from the internet, especially to supplement your retirement income.

However, there are some pitfalls associated with the process and unhappily, quite a few scams out there. Anton, a successfull website flipper, has written a report called “Site Flipping Scams Revealed” and is making it available to everyone FREE.

Find out why some web flippers are getting upset by grabbing your copyof this FREE report.

If you are buying or selling websites you need to read this, it is a must have for anyone involved in Internet Marketing.

No Bull, No Hype, just straight to the point. It really is refreshing to see someone expose the tricks that could cost you money.

Queensland Floods, Jan2011

Flooding in Brisbane & surrounding areas (Queensland, Australia)

floods2

My city is in the midst of the worst flood since 1974. The death toll has reached 14, mostly from the torrent that originated in Toowoomba & swept through the Lockyer valley, upstream from Ipswich & Brisbane, so although we have very serious flooding in the city, we had plenty of warning so little loss of life or serious injury. However, the amount of warning is no compensation for the approx 20,000 people in 30 suburbs whose homes have been inundated with smelly brown, water.

I’m lucky to be in a higher area. My place is 100 yards off  a major road which is flooded down the end about 1km from me. The store I buy my elctronic goods from just down there had water nearly to the roof & it is on a high bit. When I saw that shown in an aerial view from the TV chopper this morning, it really threw me as I didn’t think the water would reach there at all.

floods4They’re asking people not to go sightseeing, so it’s a strange feeling, on the one hand watching the grim scenes on TV but on the other, from where I live and the places I have to go for work, life is seemingly normal.  However, for the thousands and thousands of people with water through their homes or businesses, it certainly is a major disaster. And it’s not just here, NSW and Victoria still have the rain and the water that fell to the west of the ranges.

Especially hard hit are some of the smaller towns in the north and the west who have already had big floods since Christmas, have just cleaned up and now have to start all over again.

The cost of the cleanup for flooding on this scale is massive and many of the victims will suffer severe financial hardship. Any donations you are able to make would be received gratefully. Here is the link to the QLD Govt flood relief appeal www.qld.gov.au. Donations can be made online, by phone, in person, internet banking or mail. Our hearts go out to all who are suffering.
