WP Site Security and Securi

It is well worth having your WordPress installation on auto-update.

I got caught out still having Ver 4.7.1 for a week after version 4.7.2 came out, and my site was breached twice, firstly with an unauthorized post about weight loss and then by a Bala Sniper Hack. WordPress 4.7.1 and other recent earlier versions turned out to have several security issues that allowed unauthorized access.

Luckily I have my site monitored by Securi, so was made aware of the breach immediately and took action to fix the problem. At present I’m only using the free version but have in the past used their paid services to restore the site from a very corrupt state. Being semi-retired now and keeping costs down, I’m only using their monitoring services but that is tremendously useful – to be advised immediately your site has a problem gives you a good chance of preventing a major attack.

There are of course many other ways to secure your sites and I’m going to talk about it a bit more in the near future.

How to Use Getty Images For Free

Licensing fees for Getty Images are typically expensive, but now you can embed pictures from Getty for free on your website. The images carry no watermark, there are no view limits and you are free to use any number of images. It works something like YouTube, in that you can embed an image from their site using just a line of code. In the future the images may carry advertising, but for now they don’t, so enjoy!

We all experience bloggers block from time to time, but don’t let it stop you from giving your subscribers the content they’ve been waiting for.

Here are 7 ideas that will help you come up with blog posts worth reading.

 1) Test or Review Something And Post Your Results

If you’re really stuck for ideas, why not give yourself a challenge and post the results? For example, in the personal development niche this could mean making a gratitude list each day and writing about the effects. Or you could try a new fitness program and write about how you’re dealing with it. In most cases, readers in any niche love to read real life case studies!

 2) Google It!

Why not Google the main topic of your blog and see what appears? You don’t want to copy any other blogs, of course, but one idea will often lead to another. Have a read around blogs in your niche – maybe even blogs outside of your niche – and see what they’re writing about. Either use this as inspiration for your own topics or write a direct response to what’s already out there.

3) Find Helpful or Interesting Videos & Share Them With Your Readers

Why not get surfing YouTube and see if there’s an interesting video you can share with your subscribers? Embed the video into a post where you give your own personal comments. This is a super-fast way to come up with content that’s still interesting.

 4) Use What Happens In Your Daily Life As Inspiration

You might not be writing a personal blog, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring personal experience into the posts you write. If you can relate personal experience to the topics you write about, then do so. Sometimes you have to get creative, but your blog posts will be more interesting as a result!

5) Ask Readers To Ask Questions

What better way of coming up with content that your readers will enjoy than to invite them to ask questions? Write up a quick post one day asking them what they want to know, then post a follow up a few days later with all the answers. This last method is also an excellent way to connect with your audience.

0006_TRS_3DC6) Give Your Readers a Poll to Participate In.

Not everyone will ask questions, but if you give your readers a short, relevant poll to complete you can get some great feedback

7) Check Your Analytics to see what people are typing in their searches

Checking your stats can leave you with a whole range of blog post ideas. Take a look at the keywords people are typing in to find your site. Chances are that some of the things they’re searching for aren’t on your blog yet. Why not use these keywords as ideas for future blog posts? You’ll also have the added benefit of knowing there’s a future audience for those posts!

The Art of eBook Creation is NOT Lost Forever

How do you go about creating your eBooks and reports?

With all the free reports available these days, I download and read a great deal of them. You know the type of reports I mean, standard format, single column, eBook title, basic contents page and body. It was a pleasant surprise to see something different.

This eBook is from a guy called Daniel Sumner and naturally I was interested in finding out how his eBook differed from mine. His tag line for the eBook is Create Convert Cash-in!

This had me impatient to know what he had to offer and discover what was so special about the eBook Cycle. To my pleasant surprise, this was no regular eBook; it was presented in a novel format, single column, basic contents but it was visually enticing, full of colour, graphics, tips hints and very cool formatting, so kept me reading.

As I read, it was obvious that this was not a 10 minute quickie that you see so many of. There was time, effort and passion put into this mini masterpiece. It flowed nicely as I read, learning everything Daniel was writing and seeing the picture he was creating with his use of the images. I was learning a very important lesson in report writing in a very easy to learn way.

Daniel engages you a lot as you progress, so you feel that you're getting to know him, like him and trust what he has to say. He lets you into his world and you feel grateful for the information he is providing, and at the same time encouraging you to get to work to create your own eBooks better than you have before.

In the eBook Cycle Daniel teaches you:

Why you should write an eBook

  • What format to choose
  • Getting started
  • Essential includes
  • Getting your eBook ready
  • Free or paid eBooks
  • Sales pages and squeeze pages
  • Payment processors
  • Marketing and traffic
  • And a whole lot more

I'm very impressed with this eBook to say the least and will return to it when I create my next report or eBook. Its definitely one for the book shelf and future reference.

But best of all, it's free. Yes FREE! You weren't expecting that, were you?

But believe me; it's true! A 100% Free download for you today.

I don't think I need to say more, so go experience it for yourself at: http://trishlikes.com/eBookCycle Give it a good read and please come back here and let me know what you thought of it. I would love to hear your comments!

There is a science — a formula — to getting rich

Almost everyone has their own theory on how to survive the recession, such as:

5. Refinance high interest credit cards
6. Reduce spending as much as you can
7. Haggle your way to savings on purchases

Send your free Earth Day ecard now!

Frederikke and Timothy from ojolie.com have added a new card called “Blue Planet” to their selection of  animated ecards just in time for Earth Day on 22nd April.  The wildlife in the card, especially the dolphins, our intelligent counterparts below water, have an important message to deliver.

Earth Day, held on April 22 each year, marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970 and is  now celebrated around the world.

Earth Day 2009 will herald the beginning of the “Green Generation Campaign”; a two-year project culminating with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day in 2010. The Green Generation’s core principles are:

1.  A carbon-free future based on renewable energy that will end dependency on fossil fuels, including coal.

2.  A commitment to responsible, sustainable consumption on an individual level

3.  Creation of a new green economy that addresses poverty by creating millions of quality green jobs and sees the global education system transform into a green one.

For those of you who missed helping to save energy during Earth Hour on March 28th, here is another chance to spread the word about helping our environment by sending Frederikke’s delightful card to your friends.

Best wishes
Trish

Affiliate Marketing – some thoughts and ideas

Affiliate Marketing – what exactly is it?

Put simply, it is process where you as the affiliate sell or promote someone else’s product or service and you receive a commission for your efforts. Affiliate Marketing is usually considered to be the lowest cost business model when starting an Online Business, and as such is the most popular method with many newcomers to Internet Marketing. The owners or licence holders of the product you promote can be called authors, publishers, merchants or other different terms, depending on whether it is a physical or an information product that you are promoting and how the commission payments are organised.

This business model can take many different forms but are commonly called Affiliate Programs. You join the affiliate program a merchant is using to sell a particular product you are interested in promoting. The most common types of programs are as follows:

  1. Pay per click – each visitor you send to the merchant’s site will earn you a commission.
  2. Pay per lead – each lead you send to the merchant’s site will earn you a commission.
  3. Pay per sale – commission will be paid by publishers for each sale made at his website or on sites such as clickbank or paydotcom.

Each one of the above methods returns a certain payment for delivering the click, lead, or sale. By far the largest number of businesses utilizing this model work on a Pay per Sale system. There are hundreds of affiliate networks that you can join where the owners of the site have numerous publishers registered so you can choose products & promote them without have to join up to all the separate affiliate programs. Examples of such sites are Commission Junction, Clix Galore, Clickbank, PayDotCom and Click2sell.

Many Internet Marketers will guide the beginner into Affiliate Marketing because it is considered to be the cheapest and simplest business model to get started and develop, especially when all the marketing tools such as a web sales page, promotional emails, articles, press releases etc are provided by the publisher.

Your main costs will be in the promotion of the product or service. All costs associated with the product, sales page, delivery, after sales services, as well as merchant services set up and costs, will be paid by the merchant providing the product.

When starting your Internet Business through affiliate marketing there are five steps to follow:

  1. Find your niche market which shows enough demand as well as a reasonable supply, as well as one that would support future business growth.
  2. Find out what the market is searching for in terms of solutions to problems, or a product/service for which there is a shortage of supply or even a deficiency.
  3. Research the available affiliate products and services for something that will fill the deficiency or fix the problem.
  4. Promote the product by every means available to you.
  5. Although this is not necessarily essential, owning your own website can increase your methods of promotion, but more importantly it allows you to pre-sell the product before redirecting them to the merchant’s sales page.

The final item regarding your own website needs serious consideration as it will be the best way towards developing and growing your business and to start creating an opt-in list of targeted potential customers.

Creating a trust between yourself and your customers, as well as your partners, is of prime importance to your business. This trust will serve you well as your customers will gradually consider you to be their expert in this niche and they will take your recommendations and buy.

To help build this relationship of trust, give value to potential customers by offering something useful to them for free. The more value you give them, the more they will be inclined to make purchases from you at a later date. Do not think for one minute that without it you will be able to succeed in affiliate marketing or any other type of business if you do not build a relationship of trust with a list of potential customers.

A Wedding in the Family

I have just returned from a five day trip to the south of Western Australia to attend the wedding of one of my daughters and what a lovely time it was. Because they all live on the other side of the country, I don’t see my children and grandchildren as much as I would like to, so I was very happy to see them all at the wedding.

We stayed in a resort in Dunsborough, right next to the Margaret River wine area, which enjoys a very pleasant climate, perfect for weddings, not too hot and not cold. Perfect for grapes, too as there are many superb wines from this region.

Our food was excellent as well but I think the greatest pleasure in these occasions is meeting new people and catching up with those we already know. It is for me, anyway and now I know someone who lives in Tasmania! I haven’t been there yet so it will be nice to call in and say hello when I do make a trip there in the future.

I am very lucky. I like all my relatives including those who have come into my extended family through marriages and partnerships. We are all different, from different countries and cultures, but we are also all the same. We all eat, breathe and sleep; we all love, laugh and cry and I am eternally grateful that we all work together, helping each other when there is a need.
